✝️ HOW JESUS SAVED ME

4 min read

For a long time, I thought I had to save myself.

I thought I had to become better, stronger, more successful, more spiritual, more healed.

I searched for answers outside of myself.

I searched for love.

I searched for validation.

I searched for something that would finally make me feel whole.

And somewhere along the journey, I realized:

I didn't need to earn God's love.

Jesus had already come looking for me.

He met me in the places I was ashamed of.

He met me in my mistakes.

He met me in my fear.

He met me in my loneliness.

He met me when I didn't have everything figured out.

And He did not say:

“Become perfect, and then I will love you.”

He called me to come to Him.

Through Jesus, I began to understand grace.

That my relationship with God is not something I purchase with perfect behavior.

That forgiveness is not something I achieve by punishing myself long enough.

That my past does not have to have the final word over my life.

Christian faith teaches that Jesus took sin upon Himself through the cross and that through His death and resurrection, forgiveness and reconciliation with God are offered to us.

As Ephesians 2:8–9 teaches, salvation is by grace through faith, not something we can boast that we earned.

That changed something in me.

Jesus saved me from believing I had to be my own savior.

He taught me that I can repent without living permanently condemned by my past.

He taught me that surrender is not the same as weakness.

He taught me that my identity does not have to be built entirely upon what happened to me, what other people thought of me, what I achieved, or how perfectly I performed.

My identity can begin somewhere deeper:

I belong to God.

Jesus did not promise me a life without suffering.

He did not promise that I would never experience heartbreak, uncertainty, grief, disappointment, or fear.

But He gave me somewhere to bring them.

When I am afraid, I can pray.

When I fall, I can return.

When I sin, I can repent.

When I do not understand, I can still trust.

When I feel alone, I can remember that I am not walking alone.

And when the world tells me that I need more—more beauty, more success, more attention, more achievement, more approval—to finally be enough, I can return to Christ.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Because perhaps one of the greatest things Jesus saved me from was the exhausting belief:

“I have to earn love.”

At the cross, I encounter a completely different message.

Grace.

Love I could not purchase.

Forgiveness I could not manufacture.

A relationship with God I could not achieve through perfection.

And a new life I did not have to create entirely through my own strength.

So when I say:

“Jesus saved me,”

I am not saying:

“My life became perfect.”

I am saying:

“My life belongs to Him.”

I was searching for myself—

and He led me back to God.

I was carrying shame—

and He showed me grace.

I was trying to earn love—

and He showed me love that begins with Him.

I was trying to control everything—

and He taught me surrender.

I was trying to become worthy—

and He taught me that salvation is a gift.

I was trying to heal every part of myself alone—

and He taught me to pray:

“Jesus, I need You.”

And maybe that is where my testimony begins.

Not:

“Look how perfectly I transformed myself.”

But:

“Look what Jesus has done in me.”

Not:

“I saved myself.”

But:

“He found me.”

“He forgave me.”

“He called me back.”

“He gave me hope.”

“He taught me how to begin again.”

“Jesus saved me.”

And now my prayer is not simply:

“Lord, give me the life I want.”

It is:

“Jesus, make my life Yours. Teach me Your truth. Correct me when I wander. Give me courage to follow You when following You is uncomfortable. Teach me to forgive as I have been forgiven. Teach me to love without losing truth. Teach me to serve without needing recognition. Teach me to trust You when I cannot see what comes next. And when I begin searching everywhere else for what only You can give me, bring my heart back to You. Thank You for Your grace. Thank You for the cross. Thank You for resurrection. Thank You for not requiring me to save myself. My life is Yours. Amen.”

✝️ I AM IN CHRIST

I AM forgiven.

I AM loved by God.

I AM saved by grace through faith.

I AM not defined by my past.

I AM free to repent and begin again.

I AM not required to earn God's love through perfection.

I AM learning to surrender what I cannot control.

I AM becoming rooted in Christ rather than approval.

I AM not my shame.

I AM not my mistakes.

I AM not what others rejected.

I AM a child of God.

I AM His.

And perhaps the simplest testimony of all is:

I was searching everywhere for love.

Jesus brought me home to God.
